- VoW 5 – The Concept
Jack of all, Master of All is a phrase that describes Vinnay Wakalkar. A passionate designer Vinnay also possesses the right business acumen. “We should generate our own work” were the very words that were sown in his mind by his grandfather – who owned a truck business back then. These early seeds of entrepreneurship helped Vinnay to start his own business very early in his career. His father – a great architect himself – instilled an aesthetic sense within him. After completing his graduation in architecture from Kolhapur, Vinnay gained his working knowledge, liaising skills and market experience from his first employers – Vishwas Kulkarni and Prakash Kanhekar – in Pune.
In 1997, Vinnay decided to go solo with Vinnay Wakalkar Architects. Bit by bit, working 19-20 hours a day, facing new challenges head-on, developing newer skills, setting bigger goals, evaluating, taking risks and achieving them one by one, he transformed his solo venture into a private limited company in 2012. Vinnay wanted to set the tradition of “No compromise on design and delivery schedule expects no compromise on payment and payment schedule”. It this mantra that has helped the company to flourish even in the tough times. In fact his clients are pleased to stick with the fees and its schedule.
His flair in mathematics/calculations, economics and business strategy has made him a winner in business as well as financial planning. In fact, in his spare time, he plans to spread awareness on how to achieve financial freedom. Says Vinnay, “At the beginning of your career you work to make money, but one needs to grasp the basic fact that you are the master and hence you need to make money work for you. To enjoy work, life and have financial freedom, one needs to get out of basics. I teach my team the golden equation of “Income-Investments= Expenses”. This way the investments eventually accumulate and yield passive income. This passive income takes care of your day to day needs and the rest becomes your wealth.
